thinking

So I have been mullingt his about in my head over and over and over because even when I barely use it I feel a need to write some kind of year end wrap up on the blog.

And what I want to do is two fold.

The blog of course was started for me to deal with my shit which I am still dealling with

but also at the crux of it I wanted to optimize my nerdyness and verbosity and tech dweeb goodness to find solutions or at least work paths

to making “things” better

And I guess i did I developed some cachet ( which I promptly blew) got some notice where i promptly told them to go jump in a lake .

I am trying to dealwith my thing about self righteousness.

SO i wantedto clear it out in my head on my facebook on my blog in the streets

because frankly I am about to give it away for free.

I am boutto dedicate some time to writing ( in addition to a play) a really long policy paper about fixing a problem one problem

and facebook

it’s also about my bitter and my smug

I was doing parts of my wrap up when I tried to look up the professor what if exchange in Feb and it was gone.

I wanted to find it because all other things aside , a lot of what I posted in my questions follow up

but ten months gives you some calrity and I want to say distance but I won't

because frankly I don't have it and things that are happening recently just confirms why I don't

because I changed myself after that.

Specifically after that exchange I stopped reading or acknowledging Renee in any form and reread Racialicious only because of links from non blogger friends

and I feel like an asshole but

I laughed at this

and then I felt bad

but mostly I laughed and i felt like shit for laughing because no WOC discomfort even if I feel like saying well yeah that's what we were saying

That's why need ing to prove diversity was such a problem in the discussion here ,

That everything about us has to be proved , we have to be __ enough or market __ enough or conform____

because the problem isn't that folks ain't getting enough

because when it was happening to us it was a problem of tact of blah of blah

but now there are NO systems there are few response mechanisms that don't depend on our ire or abuse.

it's still being talked of as a marketing issue. It's still a concept and not lives

I got sent this as some call to women's issues .

Mind you

Race ability money the actual treatement of women the actual orgnising is treated to places at the table'

the problem isnt that WHOLE of the last paragraph

but the important part is not where we are who we are what we work for

but who is on the DAIS.

Because it's about being professionally recognized for our "work to the common good"

where has all the professional feminism.anti-racism

done for our lives.

what will more of it do?

Because ten months a year three later the same people Still being boycotted

The same connections ( seal press's authors are now doing extra special on Huffington post and disappearing it)

and my hurt feelings or well yeah I was kind of prescient

isn't the point.

The fact that Feministing/NOW/SP ? HRC name we went at em are still assholes

what is scary is that while rights are erroding fissures are growing and teh feel of necessity to combat it is not happening

what will MOre of it do

MEXICO CITY - Mexico City lawmakers have become the first in Latin America to legalize gay marriage.

City legislators passed the bill 39-20 on Monday with five lawmakers absent.

Gay marriage is currently allowed in only seven countries and some parts of the United States.

Leftist Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard is widely expected to sign the decision into law.

The bill calls for changing the definition of marriage in the city's civic code. Marriage is currently defined as the union of a man and a woman. The new definition will be "the free uniting of two people."

Have you done any Christmas shopping this year?
Why i thought avatar was going to be  one of those annoying Dances With Wolves type movies 10mins into the movie...and why it wasn't

ok, this is my take on Avatar.

CUT FOR SPOILER ALERT...and for Longwindedness )
One of the memes I'm beyond sick and tired of that gets pimped and hurled at us by the Forces of Intolerance and others is this 'deception' one.

That's bull feces. How is a transwoman openly living her life and minding her own damned business 'deceiving' someone?

If me and my sisters are out and about doing thangs, shopping, talking to our cis or trans girlfriends, having a good time and you're checking us out, it's all good.

We transwomen are under no obligation to walk around with a scarlet 'T' on our clothing or reveal our status to you or anybody else until you either ask us for a date or are suggesting intimate coupling with us while on that date.

Once you do, we're in a Catch 22 situation either way.

If we tell you and you start tripping, we are quite aware of the fact that the reaction to what we just told you about our background can range from a loud, disrespectful verbal rebuke to a physical beatdown or murder.

If for some reason we escape that, then we have to deal with the fact you will create a virtual scarlet 'T' for us by running and telling every dude we potentially want to hook up with our business. And if you're feeling especially spiteful, you'll flap your gums to a few jealous ciswomen who will do the rest of your 'scarlet trans' handiwork for you.

But as you run and tell this transwoman's business, bear in mind you and your cohorts may have initiated a chain of events that sets the transwoman in question up for a hate crime or worse if the wrong person gets wind of that information.

So no, transwomen aren't running around in the dating scene wanting to 'trick' cis men as the urban legends about us go. We're in the dating scene for the same reasons you are, looking for love and companionship.

Trust me, before we go out, we've contemplated long and hard about the potential dangerous consequences. There is no way we transwomen are going to play games that can result in us getting killed or severely injured.

As long as I am writing TransGriot, I can't stress this point enough. Transwomen are women who happened to be born in masculine bodies, not 'men in dresses'. That means me and my trans sisters being and becoming the phenomenal women we are is not in any way 'deceiving' society as our detractors disrespectfully and erroneously put it.

It took a lot of prayerful self examination, inner fortitude, counseling, and ongoing real life experience to put us on the path of getting our bodies to match our feminine spirits.

We are being honest with ourselves and living our lives. Not our fault the estrogen worked to make us look good as well while doing so and you want to get with us.

You call it 'deceptive' because you're having a problem processing the fact you were feeling the positive vibe and aura that particular transwoman was broadcasting to the world because she's finally happy with herself, and you were intrigued enough by it to step to her.

But this meme about transwomen 'deceiving' people is so 20th century and really needs to die.

Israel Admits Stealing Palestinian Organs

"If such is what they are willing to admit, imagine how much they are concealing," Knesset member Teibi told IOL.

By Khalid Amayreh* | Sabbah Report | www.sabbah.biz

israel-Stealing-Palestinian-OrgansOCCUPIED JERUSALEM — For the first time, Israel has tacitly admitted stealing Palestinian body parts for transplant in Jewish patients, vindicating accusations leveled by Palestinians and rights groups over the past years.

"We started to harvest corneas…whatever was done was highly informal. No permission was asked from the family," pathologist Yehuda Hiss, the former head of the Abu Akbar Center, also known as the L. Greenberg Institute for Forensic Medicine, told Nancy Sheppard-Hughes, now a professor of Anthropology at the University of California-Berkeley, in a documentary aired by the Israeli Channel Two.

The documentary revealed that in the 1990s, forensic specialists harvested corneas, heart valves and bones from the bodies of Israeli soldiers, Israeli citizens, Palestinians and foreign workers, often without permission from relatives.

Hiss said his doctors often sought to mask the removal of corneas from bodies.

"We'd glue the eyelid shut. We wouldn't take corneas from families we knew would open the eyelids."

Other body parts believed to have been harvested from deceased Palestinians and others included heart arteries, bones and corneal tissues.

"The skins were taken from the bodies and transmitted to Hadasah hospital in West Jerusalem on the request of the Israeli army to be transplanted to wounded soldiers and in case of disaster," said Hiss.

Hiss revealed that in the early 1990s, military surgeons began removing a thin layer of skin from bodies to treat burn victims, which he said was done without family consent.

Hughes reportedly decided to publish the interview, recorded in 2000 as part of her studies at the Israeli forensic institute, after a leading Swedish daily reported in August that Israeli soldiers killed Palestinians to trade in their organs.

A Swedish journalist revealed earlier this year that Israeli doctors at the Abu Akbar forensic institute had been harvesting organs from Palestinians killed by the Israeli army.

The Aftonbladet report, written by Donald Bostrom, cited an incident of Palestinian organ harvesting by Israel in 1992 during the first Intifada.

Incriminating

Ahmed Teibi, a member of the Israeli Knesset and head of the Arab nationalist Party, insists that the new evidence incriminates the Israeli army and government.

"If such is what they are willing to admit, imagine how much they are concealing," he told IslamOnline.net.

Teibi says the revelations amounted to irrefutable evidence proving that Israeli doctors at the Abu Akbar institute harvested appendages and corneas from bodies of slain Palestinians in the 1990s.

He says the latest revelations underscored the "inherent racism plaguing the Israeli Jewish society."

Teibi was the first to raise questions about the issue of Palestinian organ harvesting by Israeli doctors.

In January, 2002, then Israeli Health Minister Nessim Dahan said in response to a question by Teibi that he couldn't deny or confirm that organs of Palestinian youths and children killed by the Israeli army were taken out for transplants or scientific research.

"I couldn't say for sure that something like that didn't happen."

At that time, Teibi said he had received credible evidence proving that Israeli doctors at the forensic institute of Abu Akbar extracted such vital organs as the heart, kidneys and liver from the bodies of Palestinian youth and children killed by the Israeli army in Gaza and the West Bank.

The Israeli military confirmed to the Channel Two documentary that the practice of harvest Palestinian organs took place in the 1990ss.

"This activity ended a decade ago and does not happen any longer."

Palestinians, however, insist that the Israeli army continued to harvest Palestinian organs for transplant or for sale in the black market.

Earlier this year, relatives of several Palestinians killed by the Israeli army during Al-Aqsa uprising told IOL that their beloved ones were returned to them shortly after they were killed without their vital organs and with a huge cut from the stomach to the neck stitched up.

The international community's shaming silence has done nothing to stop the Israeli intentional attempts to kill life in Gaza. (Reuters Photo)
Despite the passage of an entire one year since the cruel Israeli onslaught against the people of the Gaza Strip, the international community has done very little to remedy the effects and aftereffects of the Nazi-like Israeli campaign.

Under the rubric of fighting Hamas, the Palestinian Muslim liberation movement, the Israeli army on December 27, 2008, rained bombs, missiles, white phosphorus, and other lethal weapons of death down on the civilian population of Gaza.

The result was more than 1400 Palestinians casualties of mostly innocent civilians, including more than 350 dead children, and more than 5,000 maimed and injured ones.

Moreover, the sustained bombing, which lasted for 21 days, destroyed the bulk of the civilian infrastructure throughout the coastal territory, leaving more than 40,000 homes totally or partially destroyed.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of public buildings, such as mosques and other public facilities were bombed and leveled to the ground.

Israel, a criminal state par excellence, claimed the bombing campaign was aimed at punishing Hamas for firing home-made projectiles on Israeli settlements across the borders.

Kill All Gazans!

The destruction of so many homes has left hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians homeless.

However, the massive death and destruction inflicted on the totally unprotected Gazan inhabitants showed that Israel wanted to kill as many Gazan civilians as the international community would allow.

Hence, one would not exaggerate a bit or sidestep truth by saying that the main motive behind the virtual Gaza genocide of last year was to satiate Jewish-Zionist thirst for the Palestinian blood.

It was a shameless expression of sadism whereby Israelis drew pleasure from seeing so many Palestinian children and civilians die by bombs and lethal white phosphorus dropped on them from high altitudes.

The destruction of so many homes has left hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians homeless.

These Palestinians had to be sheltered in insecure and unsafe tents or by clinging to their partially destroyed and highly risky homes.

Israel is vehemently refusing to allow building materials such as lumber, cement, panes, and glass to reach Gaza.

Israeli officials concoct many excuses to justify their manifestly criminal behavior, which is causing immense suffering to innocent civilians, such as claiming that building materials could be used by Hamas to build fortifications.

Indeed, "criminal" is an appropriate description of the Israeli behavior since barring building materials from getting into Gaza reflects callousness, cruelty, and criminality.

The Decapitated "Civilized West"

No matter what Israel does and what crimes it commits, this would not affect Israeli-EU relations.

Now, with the advent of winter, tens of thousands of tormented Gazans are going to suffer and many might get sick and die because of cold weather.

Notwithstanding its Nazi-like criminality, Israel does not alone bear all the blame for the huge shame of exposing the people of Gaza to much suffering and pain.

The "civilized" West, which created Israel by giving European Jews the historical and ancestral homeland of the Palestinian people, is virtually silent in the face of this shame as if the suffering and pain Palestinians have been through were not sufficient.

Indeed, apart from some routine statements by EU officials deploring the humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, European officials who would hasten to invoke "Western civility and enlightenment", are more or less circumspect on the ongoing Gaza nightmare as if they are awaiting to see the people of Gaza slowly dying.

The European Union does give humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. However, the people of Gaza need more than just food. They need to rebuild their homes and lives, and this task cannot be realized without the European Union exerting meaningful pressure on the Zionist regime to allow the entry of building materials into the Strip.

It is difficult to find a single legitimate reason justifying European inaction, which really amounts to a huge betrayal and moral failure.

The European Union has much leverage with Israel. The European Union is Israel's main trading partner, and the Zionist regime has immense interests in maintaining strong ties with European Union and its individual countries.

However, instead of utilizing these factors to convince or even force Israel to allow Gaza to rebuild, EU countries are often busy discussing ways and means to promote their ties with Israel.

The European attitude toward Israel is morally problematic. It shows that Europe is quite helpless in the face of the Israeli arrogance and insolence. In fact, Israel is not only indulging in cruel sadism against a helpless and thoroughly tormented civilian population, but is also killing the two-state solution by continuing to build Jewish-only settlements on the occupied Arab lands.

The European Union is actually rewarding the Zionist state by showing that no matter what Israel does and what crimes it commits, this would not affect Israeli-EU relations.

On December 10, as the world celebrates the so-called Human-Rights Day, the people of Gaza stand virtually alone in coping with their suffering.

Arab Regimes Collaborating with Israel

These regime will pay dearly for their betrayal of an Arab-Muslim people that has been standing alone against Zionist expansionism.

Unfortunately, the biggest Arab country, Egypt, could do much to alleviate suffering across the border. Egypt can, at no price and at no risk, allow building materials to reach Gaza, thus thwarting Israel's criminal blackmail.

The Egyptian economy could also benefit from rebuilding Gaza, given the fact that billions of dollars would be spent in the rebuilding process.

However, the autocratic Egyptian leadership refuses to do so, citing unconvincing arguments about "international agreements with Israel" as if these agreements, which have been violated a thousand times by the Zionist regime, were sacred covenants and more important than saving lives.

Other Arab countries, such as Saudi Arabia, have voiced their willingness to contribute generously to rebuilding Gaza. The King of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz, reportedly pledged a $ billion to cover the expenses of rebuilding Gaza.

However, it is amply clear that financial generosity alone is not sufficient to overcome the present tragedy.

Saudi Arabia, an important country in the Middle East, could, if it wanted, exert strong pressure on Washington to pressure Israel to allow building materials to reach Gaza.

However, the fact that the Saudis are not exerting such pressure sends another bleak message of betrayal to the people of Gaza.

This impotent Arab attitude toward the Gaza catastrophe is more than a moral failure.

It really borders on outright perfidy. These regimes will pay dearly for their betrayal of an Arab-Muslim people that has been standing, virtually alone, along the first line of defense against Zionist expansionism and belligerency.

Nevertheless, one has to admit that the Saudis and other Arab regimes cannot really be more Palestinian than the Palestinians themselves can. The Palestinian Authority (PA) regime in Ramallah has done very little to help rebuild Gaza.

On the contrary, this regime, which gives the stupid political power struggle with Hamas priority over the Israeli occupation, often seems to be conniving with the Zionist occupiers and the Western powers in perpetuating the present situation for as long as possible in the hope of generating more anger and indignation against Hamas among the people of Gaza.

This is the very regime that claims to be serving the national interests of the Palestinian people.

Well, with leaders like Mahmud Abbas, Salam Fayyad, and Muhammed Dahlan, the Palestinian people certainly need no enemies.

The Gaza I Know

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 5:16 PM

gaza-massacre09-253

By Nancy Murray | Sabbah Report | www.sabbah.biz

For most Americans, the Gaza Strip is, at best, unknown territory. At worst, it is a hostile land whose "terrorist infrastructure" must be dismantled, no matter what the cost to its million and a half residents.

The Gaza I have been visiting for the past twenty-one years bears little relation to the dehumanizing imagery to which it has been reduced by the mainstream media. The Gaza I know is home to friends and strangers who are as welcoming and humane as they are resilient and determined to achieve their freedom. They have maintained their humanity despite enduring a brutal forty-two-year-old Israeli occupation that has cost them the destruction of their homes, land, economy and future and the loss of more than 4,000 lives since the dawn of the twenty-first century.

For the past two and a half years, this spit of sand–just twenty-five miles long and a few miles wide–has been virtually a closed prison. Since June 2007 Israel's blockade has prevented the entry of all but a handful of basic items, and the exit of patients who urgently need medical treatment and students with scholarships to study abroad. Then, a year ago, came the "shock and awe" of Israel's "Operation Cast Lead," intended as a knockout blow not just to the crude rockets fired from Gaza but to its life-sustaining infrastructure and the will of its people to resist.

A month ago, I finally obtained permission from the Israeli military to cross into Gaza to visit therapy programs for traumatized children. Half of the Gaza Strip's 1.5 million inhabitants are children, and many have not emotionally recovered from Israel's military attacks.

And how could they? They are still living in the ruins of war. Blasted buildings tilt dangerously over streets. Unexploded ordnance lurks beneath concrete rubble. Israel, with the blessing of the United States, has prevented reconstruction materials and heavy machinery from entering the Gaza Strip – and just about everything else.

Aid agencies have at the ready the equipment needed to fix the destroyed sewage and waste water systems – but it is not permitted to enter. And so each day up to 80 million liters of untreated sewage spill into the Mediterranean and leach into the aquifer. Thousands of babies have "blue baby syndrome" and risk dying of nitrate poisoning; fish are dead; and the long sandy beaches–which had been the sole place of recreation in one of the most densely crowded places on earth –are now off limits.

The hundreds of dangerous, hand-hewn tunnels into Egypt through which Gazans haul bottled water, food and other supplies are at present a lifeline. So it is with a sinking heart that I read that Egypt, at the urging of Israel and the United States, is installing metal sheets under the ground to "curb smuggling."

I wonder how the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, John Ging, is digesting this latest calamitous news. When I met with him in November he told me that hope for tomorrow is just about gone. "We have run out of words to describe how bad it is here. Things are moving rapidly in the wrong direction. The best help we can get is to lift the siege and to begin to deal with human beings on a humane and legal basis."

In late December, to mark the first anniversary of Israel's war, some 1,200 internationals from forty-two countries will be doing what they can to get things moving in the right direction. They intend to enter Gaza from Egypt to participate in the Gaza Freedom March. Marchers include an 85-year-old American Holocaust survivor, Hedy Epstein, the acclaimed writer Alice Walker, civil rights movement veterans, Ronnie Kasrils, a leader of the South African liberation struggle and a substantial delegation from the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU).

Invoking the spirit of Gandhi's Salt March and the Civil Rights Movement, these internationals of conscience will encounter the Gaza I know – the vibrant civil society of children, students and teachers, refugee groups and women's organizations, doctors and therapists, farmers and fishermen, musicians and dancers who are planning a tremendous welcome.

Together they will take part in cultural and solidarity activities. Then, on New Year's Eve, they will call for an end to the blockade in a massive march toward the Erez Crossing with Israel, as Israeli solidarity marchers converge on the other side.

Simultaneously, around the globe there will be "end the siege" actions demanding that the prison doors be opened. The lives of Gaza's babies hang in the balance.

To find out more, go to Gaza Freedom March.

Israel admits theft of Palestinian organs

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 4:50 PM

Finally, the Swedish journalist report (Donald Bostrom) was confirmed by the criminal state of Israel.

Watch the first minute of this news bulletin from Aljazeera, which was aired little while ago:

Video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epNlRAEXUyI

Israel has admitted that it harvested organs from the dead bodies of Palestinians and Israelis in the 1990s, without permission from their families.

The admission follows the release of an interview with Jehuda Hiss, the former head of Israel's forensic institute, in which he said that workers at the institute had harvested skin, corneas, heart valves and bones from Israelis, Palestinians and foreign workers.

Israel-stripped-body-organs-off-PalestiniansIn the interview, which was conducted in 2000 when Hiss was head of Tel Aviv's Abu Kabir forensic institute, he said: "We started to harvest corneas … Whatever was done was highly informal. No permission was asked from the family."

Nancy Scheper-Hughes, who conducted the interview, told Al Jazeera on Monday that Hiss had said the "body parts were used by hospitals for transplant purposes – cornea transplants. They were sent to public hospitals [for use on citizens].

Guidelines 'not clear'

"And the skin went to a special skin bank, founded by the military, for their uses", such as for burns victims.

The practice is said to have ended in 2000.

The interview was also reported on Israel's Channel 2 television, which quoted an Israeli military statement that said: "This activity ended a decade ago and does not happen any longer."

Israel's health ministry said in the Channel 2 report that at the time the guidelines for transplants "were not clear" and that for the last 10 years "Abu Kabir has been working according to ethics and Jewish law".

Scheper-Hughes, who is a professor of anthropology at the University of California-Berkeley, said that she made the interview public because of the controversy last summer over allegations of organ harvesting made by a Swedish newspaper.

In August the Aftonbladet newspaper ran an article alleging that the Israeli army had stolen body organs from Palestinian men after killing them.

Israel denied the claims, calling them anti-Semitic, and the incident raised tensions when Sweden refused to apologise for the article, saying that press freedom prevented it from intervening.

'Conflict deaths'

Donald Bostrom, the journalist who broke the story in Aftonbladet, told Al Jazeera: "UN staff came to me and said that you have to look into this very serious issue. Palestinian young people were disappearing in the areas and five days later they appear back in the villages with an autopsy done on them against the will of the families.

"We need to know who are the victims. Mothers need to know what happened to their sons."

Bostrom said that there is no proof that people were killed for their organs but that an investigation is needed to find out whether there was a policy in place or if the bodies used were random.

Bostrom added that Hiss is the "main key" to solving such unanswered questions, but that there would also be other people involved who could help uncover the truth.

Scheper-Hughes said that some of the dead Palestinians from whom organs were harvested were killed during military raids.

"Some of the bodies were definitely Palestinians who were killed in conflicts," she told Al Jazeera.

"Their organs were taken without consent of families and were used to serve the needs of the country in terms of hospitals as well as the army's needs."

'Technically illegal'

She said that Hiss told her "that the people who did the harvesting were sent by the military. They were often medical students".

"He did it informally and without permission, and it was technically illegal," she said.

The military establishment gave their "sanction and approval" to the procedures, according to Scheper-Hughes.

During his interview with Scheper-Hughes, Hiss said that the eyelids of bodies were glued shut to prevent the removal of corneas being found out.

Hiss was dismissed as head of Abu Kabir in 2004 over irregularities in the use of organs, but charges against him were eventually dropped. He still holds the position of chief pathologist at the institute.

Fandom II

Does anyone know if Fandom II downtown is closed already for the holidays? I just tried calling them but there was no answer (and I thought most people and at least some kind of answering machine service these days).
I talked about my Houston homegirl Brittney Griner becoming the ninth woman to dunk in NCAA women's competition a month ago.

It's time for Moni to play Final Jeopardy with you.

On December 21, 1984, this 6 foot 7 West Virginia University player became the first woman to dunk in an NCAA game against Morris Harvey University (now the University of Charleston) Name the player who accomplished this feat.

If you said, who is Georgeann Wells-Blackwell, you are correct.

Today is the 25th anniversary of Wells-Blackwell's groundbreaking dunk. What was even more impressive about it is that back in the day, she did so while using the men's regulation ball. She is the only women's player to do so in NCAA competition while using the men's ball.

ESPN was only a fledgling network just beginning to break out of its northeast regional turf and wasn't the dominant sports force it is now.

Wells-Blackwell's dunk was such a big deal back in 1984 that she appeared on network television, in an issue of Sports Illustrated, was honored at a luncheon in New York, had a display put up in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, another one in the Women’s College Basketball Hall of Fame and was given the honor of being inducted in the University of Houston’s Phi Slamma Jamma dunking fraternity.

It took ten years before another woman b-baller joined her in the elite basketball dunking sorority Alpha Slama Dunka.

But Georgeann Wells-Blackwell will forever be known as the first one to do so.

The dutch don't have the history we have with blackface or slavery, and have made modifications to the story to make it more acceptable, ( Black Peter's are boys who were saved by St. Nick and chsoe to help him, rather than being demons that were enslaved by him) but the fact that this is still a tradition, to dress in black face leaves me with a constant cringe. What do you think ? Article: http://www.megafriday.com/2009/12/did-you-know-santa-claus-had-black.html
